Sharing Best Practices Across The Events Industry

One of the services we intend to provide at TSNN is the sharing of best practices across the events industry. We came across an appeal from an association president for members to attend an upcoming Las Vegas meeting. There is no doubt that the industry is justifiably worried about the impact of the economic shifts currently taking place. However, as this smart leader points out here below, this is the ideal time to come together, network, learn -- and maybe even invest in a new technology or supplier relationship.

Our intent on sharing this appeal is simple: as a trade show producer, exhibitor, supplier or venue -- is there a similar message you could push so that people view this challenging economic climate as an opportunity rather than a threat? Take a read, and let us know what you think. We've posted this question on Linkedin. Click here so you can share your thoughts publicly. Or, send us a note at ewilson@tarsus-inc.com if you'd like to share a best practices for a tough climate with your colleagues.

Message from Wayne Cooper, SIPA President

I've spoken with many publishers over the past few weeks who, to say the least, are very concerned with the current state of the economy. Some are more concerned than others – but all are seeking new and creative ways to increase revenue and decrease expenses. It seems that some are frozen in their tracks– they almost seem paralyzed from a marketing and operational standpoint. Personally, I'm not waiting for the other shoe to drop. I am forging ahead with multiple plans; one plan that would address a worst case economic scenario and one that deals with a more mild recession. In both scenarios, we are doing more e-marketing than in the past, and looking for cost cutting in other areas of our businesses, in order to protect our core franchises and maximize profits.

I have also invited a half dozen of my Greenhaven colleagues (marketers as well as business and IT leaders) to SIPA's Mid-Year Marketing Conference, December 8-10 in Las Vegas. The program features the best and brightest ideas in e-marketing -- ideas that we need to embrace to survive and ultimately thrive. Additionally, I have asked conference chairs RD Whitney and Leslie Davidson to tweak the program – we have asked all the speakers to include specific ideas and takeaways focused on how to maximize marketing efforts and cut costs during an economic downturn.

My decision to send a large contingency to the conference is not only based on my desire to have our people stay current on the best practices in e-marketing methodologies – I also recognize the great value of the networking and informal conversations that always take place with industry colleagues at SIPA conferences. If you haven't made plans to attend yet, please consider the value of attending and also think about others in your organization who can benefit from hearing what some of the smartest people in our industry are doing. I know that money and budgets are tight – but the conference is a modest investment that can bring enormous returns. Even Guy Cecala of Inside Mortgage Finance – our poster child for this tough economy – will be attending, and, he will be bringing his top marketer.

I hope to see you at the conference in Las Vegas. You may register online www.SIPAinVegas.com or by calling the SIPA office at (703) 992-9339.

Best Regards,

Wayne Cooper
President, SIPA
