ProMat 2009, Largest on Record Despite Sluggish Economy
ProMat 2009, which opened on January 12th, hosts record number of exhibitors and attendees. Best Practice for Meeting Planners
Meeting planners from smaller markets can learn about cost-effective events using the Forgotten Buffalo example from Facebook.
When a Western New York manufacturer wanted to do something different for their 2009 North American Marketing Meeting, they contacted a Facebook networking group called "Forgotten Buffalo." Instead of the usual corporate dinner, employees as far away as Vancouver and California spent an evening "eating, drinking, learning and laughing" Buffalo history. The outing was part of Forgotten Buffalo's private tour initiative that provides tailored "Buffalo immersion" tours to groups up to 55 people. On a night with temperatures near 10 degrees, the guests learned about the city's colorful past, viewed prime examples of famous architecture, feasted on traditional Buffalo cuisine (Genesee Beer, Beef-on-Weck with Broadway Market Horseradish, chicken wings and Bocce Club Pizza), and danced the polka in a family-owned tavern.
