Great Advice from Susan Friedmann: The Trade Show Coach
How Do You Manage Multiple Social Media Channels?

Update your Twitter status. Type a new blog post. Comment on Facebook. Whether you're a small operation or a big corporation, managing multiple media channels can be challenging. Here are a couple of ways that can help you socialize on all fronts.
Ping.fm is a service that lets you write and send one status update to all social media channels. Your Twitter update. Your Facebook status. All the popular social media channels are supported. Once it's setup, one login gives you access to all accounts.
EasyTweets.com isn't a free service like Ping.fm, but if you have multiple Twitter accounts, it's the best way to manage comments, @replies and RSS feeds all in one place. If money is tight, you may combine free services from TweetDeck, TweetLater and the affordably priced Twollow.com service to somewhat achieve the same goal.
Atomkeep.com is a social media tool that lets you manage multiple accounts, user profiles and even profile pictures all in one place. I haven't used this program, and there is currently a wait list for new accounts, but it may be a valuable resource in the future.
By finding the right tool for your social media streamlining efforts, you can cut down the time it takes to be present and accounted for online. With any resource, it's important that you always assess your strategies and organize your profiles via bookmark folders.

Why Trade Shows Will Never Be Obsolete
By Ken Newman
Hey Newman, the trends don't look good, man. Are trade shows going the way of the dodo? I think it would be a shame if that's true. – Jeff in Philly
There's been some recent doom and gloom about the future of the trade show industry. To Jeff and everyone else with similar concerns, Ken has a simple message: The trade show is far from dead. People are just spending more selectively.
Face-to-face marketing is not going away. Ever. We have the Internet, but the telephone isn't going away. For that matter, we have the telephone, but we're still getting together to talk in person.
Look at the Presidential Inauguration. Was there any particular reason why people had to stand outside in 20-degree temperatures (10-below with the wind chill) for hours and hours to see Mr. Obama be sworn in? The crowds were so deep that many were freezing and three-quarters of a mile away from the stage watching details on a JumboTron.
Why didn't all 2 million of those people just stay and watch in the comfort of their living rooms?

How To Tackle A Virtual Trade Show
By Melanie Lindner
Want to save a bundle generating leads? Follow these steps.

Nine Steps For Tackling A Virtual Trade Show
Trade shows are an expensive but necessary part of doing business for David Appelbaum, senior vice president of marketing for BigFix, an Emeryville, Calif.-based information-technology security software maker.
"In the tech industry, you have to participate in trade shows to generate new leads," says Appelbaum. "The problem is the uneven playing field for small and medium businesses. Bigger firms with a lot of money can get premium booth space, podium presentation time and top advertising on event programs and lanyard name tags. With the cost of your booth rental and all of that extra promotion you could easily spend up to $100,000 per show."

Employment Advice
Is Attending a Trade Show a Good Way To Find a Job?
Absolutely it is!
-Hand out maps or give vendors their name tags or help the speakers with their PowerPoints. Sign up ahead as a volunteer and you may get in for free. If possible, do something that shows some of your talents - or at least shows you to be a hard working smart problem-solver.
-Come up with a good 20- or 30-second elevator pitch on yourself, and practice it ahead of time. Cut to 10-seconds and this will be your quick introduction.
-Ask roundabout questions that will lead you to career opportunities. Find out what the growth areas are, what companies are bursting at the seams with business and where the bottlenecks are.
-If you can arrange to go with someone who's been to the show a few times before, they can clue you in on the best sessions - and those that are dead. They may also introduce you to others - a great way to start building your network.
