Your Event Sold Out – Now What?

Terrific news; the event you promoted is sold out. Now you have to deliver with confidence. Exhibitors and sponsors are extremely focused on measurable results and want a high return on investment. Every participant wants to walk away with qualified leads. Therefore, you have to ask yourself if they will exit with just a “list of lists” or if you want to deliver more value than that.

Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing

From: Onrec Expo 2009

In response to the question, “Why do you attend conferences?” here’s what three industry experts said:

Jeremy Eskenazi, managing principal, Riviera Advisors: “One primary reason is to see what’s new in the industry; specifically, to meet with vendors to check out the new and improved products and services available. Also, I get a lot of benefit from listening to the sessions to see what’s on the minds of the recruiting and HR professionals. And finally, most importantly, I attend these sessions to network with recruiting professionals.”

Steven Rothberg, president and founder, CollegeRecruiter.com: “Speaking at recruitment conferences is our most efficient and effective means of marketing our job board.”

Lisa Tromba, vice president, Battalia Winston: “A conference setting is a ‘meeting of the minds’ and I have found it be an effective venue which fosters collaboration on efforts ranging from forming valuable ‘like minded’ networking groups to business development initiatives to collaborative publishing opportunities.”

Question Posted Recently:

As someone relatively new to the Trade Show industry, I'd like to know how people got their start. Was it something you've always wanted to do? That you fell into? Or is your involvement simply a necessity of the job you have?

Answers From Current Members:

“I was recruited by a national co. and worked the corporate sales side for many years. With the economy today, it's even more important to use your marketing dollar wisely. The energetic booth creates the attendee draw & buzz talk. When you design your trade show booth, you have to create it using the right colors, usually the convention lighting washes out your booth colors, so having color impact is important. Having the staff wear the proper apparel, again color & fit. The Trade Show giveaway has to be something that is cost effective, but unique and creates a buzz. Your exhibiting staff has to be excited about exhibiting. Give them something to be excited about too, remember it's your brand image that sells you & your products.”

Debra Cooper Stepp, President/CEO, COOPER STEPP & ASSOCIATES

“Born into it. My family owned a T-Shirts store. I started there when I was 7 years old...”

Jay Shaplin, Promotional Products Specialist/Owner at J4 Promotional Marketing

“For the last eleven years I ran the Exhibits department before taking over the rings...”

Roger Cecil, Exhibits Mgr; Draper Inc.

“I started as a receptionist answering phones and billing storage at a custom exhibit house when I was 17 years old. I learned to thrive on the challenge of deadlines and seeing a concept be built into something that really represented a client well…”

Search Engine Optimization

Monetize The Audience, Not The Content

A fundamental fact about the internet is making your content available for search engines and social media linking. These are heavy traffic drivers. If you have an ad model then you need those visits along with that key audience. Even the 'drive by' visits will bring new audiences and potentially paid advertisers in the long run.
