Q: Sandy, have you noticed a shift occurring in marketing? A: Yes, a marketing shift is happening with our events. We are very conscience of our environmental footprint, in addition to increasing ROI on our marketing efforts. Our days of mailing 140,000 brochures to have a few thousand register to attend are definitely over. At New Hope Natural Media we are taking full advantage of email marketing, social networking platforms and digital brochures. As email was the answer a few years back, today we are all faced with the challenge of how to get them received and opened. We have found an advantage in social networking, finding prospective clients in new nooks in a medium they prefer. As an organization we are able to learn more about them in these environments; engage in the intelligent conversations, build relationships, and then pitch vs. just sending random messages. While I do believe we have always made efforts to identify new opportunities to find audience, those opportunities are growing and the areas are not becoming extinct but rather more targeted. This engages the marketing team on a new level of really knowing their audience. In the past our marketing professionals invested time proofing brochures and negotiating print deals and now they have shifted their focus on how to become more relevant to the audience they have. It will be interesting to see what the next new technology we can find customers in with be.
By Roger Wilson As producers and organizers look for new ways to stretch budgets and reduce expenses virtual meetings are becoming an attractive alternative. Meetings.net recently reported that Cisco ended a 20 year tradition and replaced its face-to-face sales conference with a large virtual event. Studies show they are not the only ones. Organizers who stay on top of this growing trend and turn it into an opportunity will emerge more profitable. What are the ten plus business trends thriving even in this economy? One evident and exciting change is an increase in an entrepreneurial spirit. The recession is the reason along with an increased desire to shop at discount retailers. “Going green” is another trend that continues to move forward along with opportunities to target seniors. As a matter of fact, The Chronicle of Higher Education named gerontology one of the "hottest" academic fields of the future. By Cory Vanderpool
