Commentary Offered ByStephen A. Varraso | Group Director M|C Communications, LLC. Question: What are the most strategic changes you see occurring in the Trade Show Industry for 2010? Answer:
The Tradeshow industry is about to embark on a completely new business model as it relates to incorporating live events with virtual learning environments. The attendee/member is constantly looking into different channels for obtaining their continuing education. Live events are now being complemented with virtual programs that give the attendee/member access to live streaming of sessions and/or repurposed content. This is just another cost effective avenue for attendees/members to obtain their learning units, in our case CME. A few years back virtual conventions were considered as a potential threat to live meetings. We don’t see it as a threat, but rather another value-add for our attendee/member. Virtual programs may not be an additional lucrative revenue source show managers once thought, but the opportunity to engage our attendees/members through additional online CME offerings combined with social media are too promising to ignore. The Editor’s at TSNN are polling your thoughts surrounding the virtual trend.
