Trade Show Executive recently published an article on Mexican trade show organizer and radio show host Jaime Salazar ("Mexican Organizer Hosts Weekly Radio Show about Trade Shows" June 2007). Salazar's show, Exposiciones en Imagen (Exhibitions on Imagen) attracts top guests-such as company executives, government officials and tourism leaders-and it reaches ears in much of Mexico's largest cities. Salazar and his guests offer information for a variety of demographics: industry professionals learn about new practices; trade show hosts and government officials hear feedback from industry members; and corporations and consumers discover the benefits of trade shows. Here's something new: Nimlok-Louisiana Trade Show has developed a blog geared toward first time and veteran exhibitors. With tips on budgets and designs as well as ideas on how to put on a successful show, this site should appeal to a variety of industry professionals, no matter how much (or how little) experience they have within the industry. And if you have something to contribute (or if you simply want a forum to share your time-tested ideas), they are open to guest writers. To access the site, go to http://www.nimlok-louisiana.com/blog/.
In Neenah, Wisconsin, 14-year-old Amanda Recktenwald successfully launched her 4th annual summertime play through her company Backyard Productions. Started by Recktenwald in 2004, the company produces dynamic operettas in their own backyard utilizing neighborhood kids (22 for this year's effort) without any school sanctioning or parental instruction. Her older sister Bridget writes the screenplays while Amanda produces and directs the performances. Production begins in March each year and includes everything from auditions, casting, costumes and rehearsals. Past productions have included The Lion King, Annie, and The Sound of Music. This year's rendition of Beauty and the Beast drew 75 guests (tripling year one's attendance) and raised over $350 for Donate Life Wisconsin (admission fees are a suggested donation to the charity of Amanda's choice). Other philanthropies supported by Playhouse Productions include the David Richardson Memorial Foundation and The American Cancer Society.
With everyone, from consumers to business leaders, catching on to the problems caused by human impact on the environment, it seems fitting that the trade show industry should meet the demand to go green. In April 2008, Manhattan will welcome the Go Green Expo featuring environmentally friendly products, businesses and services. Aimed at both consumers and business leaders, the Go Green Expo "will feature alternative energy sources, green home and business products, hybrid/low emission transportation, ideas for green building, eco-fashion, eco-friendly toys, green travel, organic foods and beverages and much more" (Go Green Expo Press Release at http://www.csrwire.com/News/9676.html). The Go Green Expo coordinators are inviting large and small companies who are doing their part to reduce their negative impact on the environment to offer their own tips on how consumers can choose environmentally safe alternatives to every day products as well as how businesses can also go green. In addition, speakers from non-profit environmental organizations such as RiverKeeper, World Wildlife Fund, New York Restoration Project (NYRP), The Council on the Environment (CENYC), American Forest Foundation, The Rainforest Alliance and Habitat for Humanity will also be on hand to provide more information. For more information about the Go Green Expo, visit their website at http://www.gogreenexpo.com.
