Mercer Island, WA-based SustainCommWorld, LLC is launching SustainCommWorld-The Green Media Show, a new event focusing on environmental sustainability in the media. The event will take place October 1-2, 2008 at the Boston Marriott Copley Place. The show will host enterprise executives, media professionals and industry vendors interested in implementing sustainable solutions for the media life cycle. Attendees will include print and digital media producers, designers and distributors. SustainCommWorld has reduced its own environmental impact at the show by providing an exhibit floor with ready-to-use, pre-manufactured, recyclable booth structures, eliminating shipping, drayage, set-up and tear-down time and expense. London-based Tarsus Group plc announced the acquisition of 100% of the share capital of The WR Kern Organisation Limited, the UK based holding company of Fairs and Exhibitions (1992) Ltd ("F&E"), its sole operating company. F&E was founded in 1958 and has been focused on the Middle East since 1976. It is one of the largest exhibition organisers in Dubai with 8 events covering three principal industry sectors:- aviation (including the Dubai Airshow, Middle East Business Aviation, Aircraft Interiors Middle East and Aviation Maintenance Repair Overhaul), printing & packaging (Gulf Print, Gulf Pack and Label Tech) and education (Gulf Education Supplies), covering approximately 50,000 net square metres in total. The Sacramento (California) Convention and Business Bureau has joined marketing forces with Baltimore, Maryland and Fort Worth, Texas, in a three-city convention sales partnership. The Baltimore Area Convention & Visitors Assn. and the Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau combined forces in July to sell themselves as an East Coast/Midwest package and had been looking for a West Coast city to join their partnership. The partnership allows the cities to encourage groups to sign multi-year contracts and rotate locations. The three cities will share three additional salespeople.
The Fall 2007 issue of Connections, The Official Publication of the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau, includes a full page spread article in the center titled "Welcome to Green Chicago." In addition to sections on the city's water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, air quality, rooftop gardens, and sustainable sites, the write-up highlights the green features of McCormick Place Convention Center, its new West Building, and Hyatt Regency McCormick Place. Key examples are the compostable flatware and packaging for its food service, the green roof and recently attained LEED Certification on the West Building, and the recycling of newspapers and paper products from guest rooms in the Hyatt Regency by housekeeping staff.
The San Diego Convention Center posted a Special Notice on its website (www.visitsandiego.com) expressing its sympathies for the victims of the recent wildfires. "Our hearts and thoughts are with those who have suffered emotionally, and in many instances, great personal loss due to the devastating wildfires of the past week." The write -up also gives thanks to those who have contributed to the relief efforts, and calls for ongoing support for the continued relief efforts. This included a link to Wildfire Relief 2007: San Diego American Red Cross.
